How does a shipping consultant work for me?

Your shipping consultant is your own personal troubleshooter and quality control expert. In short, they make sure that you get exactly what you need. And, if anything ever goes wrong, just one call to your shipping consultant will take care of the problem. No more dealing with bureaucracy, frustrating automated customer service numbers or limited business hours. Your consultant is a real, live person with a passion for helping you.

How involved is my Unishippers team?

Your Unishippers team is as involved as you’d like us to be. Some customers want to manage their shipments mostly on their own with only occasional support from Unishippers’ team of shipping experts. Other customers are more comfortable with a hands-on consultant and utilize them regularly. It’s really up to you.

What happens if there’s a problem with my shipping? Who do I contact?

Contact your Unishippers representative with all of your shipping needs and questions. Our customer service personnel only handle a small group of customers, so more in-depth and personal service is available from the local office. Because of our relationships with the carriers, we can often call them directly and work out a solution more quickly than you could by calling the carrier’s 800 number. There is no need for you to spend valuable time and energy trying to track down the source of the problem or negotiate potential solutions. Unishippers will take care of it for you.

How can I be sure I’m getting the best rates and service?

Does Unishippers have any trucks and drivers to make deliveries?

We do not have trucks and drivers. Our carrier partners do all of the pickups and deliveries. We are the liaison between the carriers and our customers, making sure all pickups and deliveries are satisfactory.

How do I get started?

If you haven’t already done so, contact your shipping consultant or the Unishippers office today. We’ll provide an account number, supplies and access to shipping tools so you’ll be ready to start shipping and saving immediately. If you’ve already received your account number and supplies, you can begin shipping immediately.

I forgot my Unishippers' TMS password, what do I do?

If you forget your password, click on the “Forgot Your Password” link in the login dialog box. Follow the steps and the system will email you a temporary password. Use this temporary password to login and then create a new password. Please contact your Unishippers office if you have any questions or need further assistance.

How do I change a quote to a Bill of Lading in Unishippers' TMS?

Within Unishippers’ TMS, go to the “Shipment Management” section under the destination address. Choose a date range with the existing calendars. Beside “Type,” choose “Quote” on the drop-down screen, and beside “Status,” choose “Any.” This will bring up a list of quotes for the time frame chosen. Then click on the quote and a summary will appear. Scroll down to the bottom and choose “Copy.” This will take you through the process again, allowing you to update or change any information. When you get to the last screen check the box beside “I agree…” then “Next,” and the BOL will appear.

If I fill in Shipment Value in the details, will my shipment be insured?

You can easily purchase shipment insurance online at the time you are booking your shipment. Click here for more information on cargo insurance. You can also call the freight coordinator at your Unishippers office for a quote.

How do I know what class my item is and how does this affect my shipment?

Class refers to the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) number that specifically identifies commodities. This NMFC number must be accurate on the Bill of Lading. This is imperative to be sure that you receive accurate pricing for what you are shipping. Should the carrier suspect that the weight or class of your cargo is incorrect, they will re-weigh and correctly re-class your load, which will result in a Reweigh and Inspection fee as well as an increase in the cost of moving the freight should the correct class be higher than what was originally specified.

Do I need to use the Bill of Lading provided by Unishippers?

To make certain that you receive the rate that was quoted to you by Unishippers, you must provide the truck driver with a copy of Unishippers’ Bill of Lading. This ensures that you receive the negotiated rates and discounts when the carrier bills Unishippers. If you choose not to use our Bill of Lading, you must specify on the Bill of Lading used that all charges are to be billed to Unishippers. Not doing so will result in incorrect billing or additional fees.
