The Unishippers executive management team is comprised of experienced professionals with diverse backgrounds that have also been successful Unishippers franchisees.
Chief Executive Officer
Kevin Lathrop was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Unishippers in September 2016 after serving as President of Unishippers since January 2011. He began his career with Unishippers in 1992 as the owner of the Orange County North franchise and was a part owner of seven Unishippers franchise locations for over two decades. Prior to joining Unishippers, Kevin worked for Hughes Aircraft Company in a variety of engineering and management positions. He earned a Bachelor degree from California State University, Fullerton and an MBA from the Anderson Graduate School of Management, University of California, Los Angeles.
Steve Leavitt was appointed as President of Unishippers in May 2017. Steve began his Unishippers career as a franchise owner in Ohio in 1988 and was one of Unishippers first franchisees. In September 1999 he joined the corporate office, serving as Chief Operations Officer and Executive Vice President. Prior to joining Unishippers, Steve spent 16 years owning and managing six “Yankee Lunch” fast-food restaurants and has also worked as a real estate broker.
President, Corporate Stores, Inside Sales
Joe Curtis came to Unishippers in 2008, following a 20-year career at DHL where he served as Vice President over Sales with responsibilities for the Unishippers relationship. Joe has extensive experience in sales and marketing and currently leads inside sales strategy for Unishippers with additional responsibilities for sales integration. He is a graduate of the University of Southern California.
Chief Technology Officer
As Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Unishippers, Dolly Wagner-Wilkins has leadership of all aspects of the technical spectrum of the company. Dolly leads a team in developing the company’s technology roadmap and operations, including the deployment of new technologies as well as the ways in which we support customers with technological solutions. Her responsibilities also include evaluating alliances with technology vendors, developing best-in-class solutions for customers, and providing technology perspective on decisions related to new markets and service lines. Prior to joining Unishippers, Dolly was a high-level executive at Sabre, the leading technology provider to the global travel industry. There, she led large software delivery teams, migrating major airlines to the company’s platform. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.
Executive VP, Freight Operations
Tim Story has served as Unishippers’ Executive Vice President of Freight Operations since October 2014 and also serves as the President of SGI, LLC. In 2001, Tim started his own integration specialty company, Story Group, Inc. which transitioned into SGI, LLC in late 2014. Tim has over 25 years of experience in transportation management software, including 10 years at Pitney Bowes in software sales and several years with the Arzoon Corporation.
Vice President, Operations
Alison Smith joined Unishippers in 2001 as the Manager of Marketing. She was soon promoted to Director of Marketing and quickly took on leadership roles in numerous departments including Franchise Development, Franchise Relations and Support and Products. Prior to Unishippers, Alison served as a Senior Marketing Manager for Hanley-Wood Publishing and the Travel Industry Association of America. She earned a Bachelor degree from the University of Virginia and a MBA from American University. Alison and her husband have owned a The Little Gym franchise in Utah, since 2006.
As Unishippers’ Executive Chairman, Dan Lockwood focuses on the company’s strategic growth initiatives as well as carrier relationships and development. Dan has served as an executive at Unishippers since October 2002 and served as the company’s CEO for five years. In addition to his corporate involvement, Dan has over 20 years’ experience as a Unishippers franchisee. Prior to joining Unishippers, Dan was a General Manager with Traditional Concepts and also worked for Seaco as a dolphin trainer in a Navy contracted marine mammal program. He earned his Bachelor degree from San Diego State University.
