Building a Successful Business with Solid Relationships
Melissa McLane’s business philosophy can be summed up in three words: build strong relationships. “At some point, residual income is associated with relationships – building relationships from the get-go and listening to our customers. If you’ve done a good job, they’re going to continue to ship with you,” she explains.
Melissa’s strong customer service ethic comes from her extensive experience in sales; she owned her own women’s retail company for many years. She decided to purchase a Unishippers franchise upon the recommendation of her business mentor.
But there was one obstacle: Melissa had no experience in the freight industry. Fortunately, her franchise training at Unishippers helped her to overcome that hurdle early on. Looking back, Melissa describes her experience with Unishippers training as “phenomenal.”
Also, Melissa has been impressed by the ongoing support she has received from the Unishippers Corporate Office, saying that all the people there are responsive, helpful, and committed to each franchisee’s success. She recommends that other franchisees utilize the system by taking advantage of the resources that Corporate has provided.
But for Melissa it always comes back to serving the customer; she always makes sure to listen to her clients and assess their needs. For her, it’s not about making a sale just to make a sale – it’s doing what is best for the customer.
And ultimately, the emphasis on making the customer happy is why she likes Unishippers. “What excited me about this business is the value proposition – we can save people money.”
