Freight Density Calculator

Measuring your shipment will help you determine the shipping service that works best for you and helps to accurately classify and price your shipment. If you want to obtain an Air Freight quote, you will need to know your shipment’s dimensions.

You will need to measure the dimensions of the shipment and round to the nearest inch. This is important because inaccurate dimensions can be costly especially for oversized items. When weighing your shipment, you will want to use an accurate shipping scale and be sure to include packaging weight such as pallets, boxes or crates. For very light shipments, most carriers state a minimum charge.

A shipment's density may be one of the factors that determine the freight rate. Depending on the freight class, shippers may need to calculate a shipment's density so they can properly describe their goods on the bill of lading. Click here for more information on determining freight class.

To determine the density, take the total weight of the shipment divided by the total cubic feet. Use the calculator below to determine your freight density so that you can identify the freight class.
